Day by day
Welcome to Lhasa, the spiritual heart of Tibet.
Upon arrival at Lhasa Gonggar International Airport or Lhasa Railway Station, you will be warmly welcomed by our local Tibetan guide with a traditional Hada (white silk scarf) and blessings — a meaningful Tibetan welcome to begin your journey.
Our guide and driver will assist you with your arrival transfer and escort you safely to your hotel in downtown Lhasa. (Airport transfer: about 60 km, 1–1.5 hours by car. For train arrivals, our team will provide clear meeting instructions in advance.)
At 3,650 meters above sea level, Lhasa requires time for your body to adjust. The rest of the day is designed for relaxation and altitude adaptation before exploring Tibet’s cultural treasures.
Tips for Your First Day in Lhasa:
- Rest well and take it slow: Avoid strenuous activities and allow your body to gradually adjust.
- Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water and eat light meals.
- Avoid alcohol: It is best to avoid alcohol on your first day at high altitude.
- Follow your guide’s advice: Our local team is always available if you feel uncomfortable or need assistance.
- Attractions Included: Lhasa Traditional Handicraft Art Center, Sera Monastery
- Highlights Today: Experience Tibetan traditional crafts with local artisans and witness the famous monks’ debate at Sera Monastery.
After a relaxing first day of altitude adaptation, begin your Lhasa exploration with a combination of hands-on Tibetan cultural experience and Buddhist heritage.
In the morning, visit the Lhasa Traditional Handicraft Art Center, where you can experience Tibet’s living traditions through authentic local crafts. Instead of simply viewing artworks, you will participate in traditional activities such as making Tibetan incense, practicing Tibetan calligraphy, and learning about ancient woodblock printing techniques with guidance from local artisans.
Create your own Tibetan script blessing or handmade souvenir while learning how these crafts are connected with Tibetan beliefs, daily life, and centuries-old artistic traditions.
After lunch, take a short drive of about 7 km (20 minutes) to Sera Monastery, one of the three great Gelug monasteries of Tibet. Explore its prayer halls and monastic courtyards, and experience the famous monks’ debate session (usually held from around 15:00 to 17:00, except Sundays).
During the debate, monks discuss Buddhist philosophy through a unique tradition of questions, answers, and symbolic gestures. It offers a fascinating glimpse into Tibetan Buddhist learning and monastic life.
After the visit, enjoy a comfortable transfer back to your hotel in Lhasa.

Walk through its sacred halls, chapels, and prayer rooms to admire ancient murals, religious treasures, and exquisite Tibetan artwork. Your guide will share stories behind this historic palace, including its connection with King Songtsen Gampo and Tibetan history.

- Visitors must enter with a guide and the visit time inside is limited.
- Photography is not allowed inside the palace.
- During peak seasons, groups may enter at different assigned times.
After Potala Palace, continue to Jokhang Temple, the spiritual heart of Tibet with over 1,300 years of history. This sacred temple attracts pilgrims from across Tibet and houses the highly revered 12-year-old Sakyamuni Buddha statue.

After breakfast, depart from Lhasa and drive about 2-3 hours (110 km) to Kampala Pass (4,797 m). From this high mountain viewpoint, enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of Yamdrok Lake, where turquoise waters wind through snow-capped mountains like a blue ribbon on the plateau.

Its stunning color changes with the sunlight and weather, creating one of the most unforgettable landscapes in Tibet.
