You can admire the glacier from the viewpoint or take a short walk closer to the glacier base. Across the valley, enjoy views of snow-covered peaks and the dramatic Himalayan landscape.
Tips for Karola Glacier:

Gyawu La Pass – The Everest Viewing Platform
Follow the famous 108 switchbacks along the Everest Road to reach Gyawu La Pass (5,210 m), one of the best viewpoints of Mount Everest.
On clear days, you can see five of the world’s highest peaks above 8,000 meters lined up across the horizon: Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Shishapangma. The panoramic Himalayan view is one of the most unforgettable moments of the journey.
Rongbuk Monastery – The World’s Highest Monastery

Everest Base Camp – Face to Face with Mount Everest
Finally, arrive at Everest Base Camp (EBC, 5,200 m), the closest point most travelers can reach to Mount Everest.
Standing before the world’s highest peak, you will witness the immense glaciers, snow-covered ridges, and dramatic Himalayan landscape. For many travelers, this is the highlight of their Tibet journey and a truly unforgettable experience.
Warm Tips for Visiting EBC:
- From Everest Town (around 50 km from EBC), travelers need to take an eco-friendly shuttle bus for the final section to Base Camp. The shuttle is also used for the return journey the next day. Your main vehicle and driver will not enter the EBC area, so please carry your personal belongings with you.
- Accommodation at EBC is provided in tented camps (renovated in 2025). Facilities have been improved with twin rooms and a simple dining area, but bathrooms are shared and services remain basic due to the remote location.
- During winter, if the tent camp is closed due to weather conditions, accommodation will be arranged at a guesthouse in Everest Town (Tashizom Town) with a private bathroom.
- The altitude and weather can be challenging. Even in summer, temperatures may drop significantly at night. Please bring warm clothing or rent a down jacket at Base Camp if needed.

- Photo Opportunity: Morning views (if weather permits, you can enjoy sunrise) at Everest Base Camp & panoramic Himalayan landscapes from Gyatso La Pass
Wake up at Everest Base Camp (5,200 m) and enjoy the peaceful morning views of Mount Everest and the surrounding Himalayas. Take some time to appreciate this rare high-altitude landscape before starting your return journey.
If weather conditions are favorable, you may have the chance to enjoy the famous Golden Summit view, when the first sunlight illuminates the snow-covered peaks. The best periods are usually spring (April–May) and autumn (September–November), when visibility is often better. Our local guide will help arrange the timing based on weather and road conditions.
Tip: At this altitude, mornings can be cold and your body may need extra time to adjust. We recommend taking a slow pace, dressing warmly, and avoiding strenuous activities before departure.
After breakfast, begin your drive back to Shigatse. Along the way, stop at Gyatso La Pass (5,248 m), the highest point on the Sino-Nepal Friendship Highway and one of the best viewpoints in the Everest region.
From the viewing platform, enjoy panoramic views of the Himalayan range, including Mount Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Makalu. Colorful prayer flags fluttering in the wind create a peaceful and unforgettable atmosphere.
