Yes, with a Tibet permit and a group visa arranged through an agency. Overland via Gyirong or flying from Kathmandu to Lhasa both work.
The group visa
Visitors entering Tibet from Nepal do not use their normal China visa. A single group visa is issued in Kathmandu to everyone on the same tour, usually in two to three days, and it replaces your individual visa. The visa has its own fee, and your passport is held by the agency during processing. Plan at least two working days in Kathmandu.
Two ways in
The simplest route. You land at 3,650 m after a short flight, so keep the first day very easy.
A slower journey that climbs gradually and passes villages and lakes. Border opening dates and road conditions can change.
Going the other way, from Tibet into Nepal, our overland route crosses the Everest region and ends in Kathmandu. It suits people who want to see the Himalaya from both sides.

Tell us your dates and we will reply with a plan and permit timeline.
Frequently asked questions
Can I enter Tibet from Nepal on a tourist visa?
No. You need a Tibet group visa issued in Kathmandu and a booked tour.
Is the border always open?
Not always. Opening dates and road conditions change, so we confirm them before you book.
How early should I book?
As early as you can. The permit still needs 15 to 20 working days.
