Today, explore the historical and spiritual heart of Lhasa, starting with its most iconic landmark — the Potala Palace.
Visit the magnificent Potala Palace, rising above Lhasa on Marpo Ri Hill. Walk through its historic halls, chapels, prayer rooms, and corridors while your local guide introduces the stories behind its murals, Buddhist statues, stupas, and religious treasures. Take your time on the steps, as you are still acclimatizing to the altitude.
After your visit, walk to Zongjiao Lukang Park, a favorite local gathering place at the foot of the Potala Palace. From here, enjoy a classic view of the palace reflected across the water and see local residents walking, exercising, and relaxing in the park.
Continue to Jokhang Temple, the spiritual heart of Lhasa and one of Tibet’s most sacred pilgrimage sites. Inside, follow your guide through its atmospheric halls and chapels. Outside, watch pilgrims prostrating in front of the temple and joining the traditional clockwise kora.
Then explore Barkhor Street, the historic pilgrimage circuit surrounding Jokhang Temple. Walk alongside pilgrims, browse local shops, and experience the lively atmosphere of Lhasa’s old town.
In the evening, enjoy a Tibetan-style dinner specially arranged by us, a relaxing way to end your first full day in Lhasa.
Expert Tips: Potala Palace entrance times are strictly controlled, so the sightseeing order may be adjusted according to your confirmed ticket time. There are many steps inside the palace, so walk slowly and avoid rushing at high altitude. Photography is not allowed inside the palace.

- Driving: Approx. 12–14 km between major stops | 30–40 minutes
Today, explore a deeper side of Lhasa through Tibetan Buddhism, monastic life, and a personal visit to a local Tibetan family.
In the morning, drive about 12 km (around 30–35 minutes) from downtown Lhasa to Drepung Monastery, one of the great Gelug monasteries of Tibet. Built along the hillside, this large monastery complex is filled with whitewashed buildings, courtyards, prayer halls, and monastic colleges. Walk through the monastery with your guide and learn about its important role in Tibetan Buddhist history and monastic education.
After the visit, return toward central Lhasa for lunch and a short break before continuing your afternoon exploration.
In the afternoon, drive about 30–40 minutes to Sera Monastery. Explore its prayer halls and monastery grounds before heading to the debate courtyard for one of Lhasa’s most distinctive experiences — the monks’ debate. Usually held in the afternoon, monks debate Buddhist philosophy through energetic questioning, clapping, and gestures. Your guide will explain the meaning behind the movements and help you better understand this centuries-old tradition.
In the late afternoon, visit a local Tibetan family, specially arranged by us. Step inside a local home, meet the family, learn about everyday life in Lhasa, and taste traditional favorites such as tsampa, butter tea, and local snacks. This personal visit offers a different perspective on Tibetan culture beyond monasteries and famous landmarks.
After the visit, your guide and driver will escort you back to your hotel in downtown Lhasa.
Expert Tips: Sera Monastery’s monks’ debate is generally held in the afternoon and is usually unavailable on Sundays. The schedule may change for religious events or monastery arrangements. Please ask permission before taking close-up photos of monks or local families.
Your 4-day Lhasa private tour comes to an end today. Enjoy some free time before checking out, then meet your guide and driver for your transfer to Lhasa Airport or Railway Station.
