The Yoghurt Festival in August: crowds, opera and a very early start at Drepung.
What happens
The festival starts at Drepung Monastery, where a giant thangka is unfolded on the hillside at first light. In the days after, Tibetan opera is performed in the park at Norbulingka, and families picnic and share yoghurt. Exact programmes change each year.
