Nepal Tours

Kathmandu Valley, Pokhara, Chitwan and Lumbini, with optional Annapurna foothill walks

Nepal sits between the Tibetan Plateau and the Indian subcontinent — a 1,400 m valley capital (Kathmandu), an 800 m lake city (Pokhara) under the 8,167 m Dhaulagiri massif, and the 100 m lowland jungle of Chitwan National Park. A standalone Nepal tour runs 4 to 10 days and works as either a starting block before crossing to Tibet, or a tail block after exiting Tibet via Gyirong.

Tibet Daily’s Nepal product covers the four headline destinations: Kathmandu Valley (7 UNESCO sites), Pokhara (Phewa Lake + Annapurna views), Chitwan National Park (one-horned rhinos and Bengal tigers), and Lumbini (the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama, UNESCO 1997).

What is a Nepal tour?

A Nepal tour is a 4–10 day cultural and landscape itinerary covering Kathmandu Valley and a combination of Pokhara, Chitwan and Lumbini. Kathmandu Valley alone holds 7 UNESCO World Heritage sites: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Swayambhunath Stupa, Boudhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple and Changu Narayan. Most travellers spend 2–3 days in the Valley, then add Pokhara (200 km west) for lakeside relaxation and Annapurna views, or Chitwan (160 km southwest) for jungle safari, or both.

When to go and how long to plan

The strongest months are October–November (post-monsoon clarity, the sharpest mountain views) and February–April (warmer, rhododendron bloom in foothills). June–September is the monsoon — Kathmandu Valley remains visitable but mountain views are usually obscured by cloud, and rural roads can wash out. Plan 4 days for Kathmandu Valley only, 7 days for Kathmandu + Pokhara, 9–10 days for the full Kathmandu + Pokhara + Chitwan + Lumbini loop.

How we run Nepal tours at Tibet Daily

Nepal tours run through our Kathmandu partner agency. Hotels are central 4-star in Thamel area (Kathmandu), lakeside 4-star in Pokhara, and inside-park lodge in Chitwan (Tigerland Safari Resort or equivalent). Vehicles are air-conditioned for the descent from cool Kathmandu to hot Chitwan lowlands. Pokhara is reached by 25-minute domestic flight (Buddha Air, Yeti Airlines) or 6-hour drive on the Prithvi Highway.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Nepal tour cost?

A 4-day Kathmandu Valley classic tour from USD 480 per person on a 2-pax basis. A 7-day Kathmandu + Pokhara tour from USD 780. A 9-day Kathmandu + Pokhara + Chitwan tour from USD 1,150. A 10-day Kathmandu + Pokhara + Chitwan + Lumbini panoramic Nepal from USD 1,350. Includes hotels, English-speaking Nepali guide, private vehicle, all entry tickets, breakfast.

How many UNESCO sites are in Kathmandu Valley?

Seven: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Swayambhunath Stupa (the Monkey Temple), Boudhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple (Hindu cremation site on the Bagmati River), and Changu Narayan (the Valley’s oldest Hindu temple, 4th century CE). All are inscribed as a single UNESCO property: “Kathmandu Valley” (1979).

Is Pokhara worth the side trip?

Yes for travellers wanting a contrast to Kathmandu’s density — lakeside relaxation on Phewa Lake, Sarangkot dawn viewpoint over the Annapurna massif (8,091 m peaks), and (with extra days) the Annapurna Base Camp trek as a foothill option. The 25-minute domestic flight from Kathmandu makes it an easy 2-night addition to any Nepal itinerary.

What animals can I see in Chitwan?

Chitwan National Park (UNESCO 1984) is one of the best-managed protected areas in South Asia. Reliable sightings include greater one-horned rhinos (the park has roughly 750 of the world’s 4,000), Bengal tigers (~100 in the park; sightings less common but possible), elephants, gharials, sloth bears, and over 540 bird species. Standard 2-night safari uses jeep, canoe and elephant-back tracking.

Can I combine Nepal with Tibet, Bhutan or India?

Yes — all three. Nepal–Tibet via the Gyirong overland or Kathmandu–Lhasa flight (1.5 hours). Nepal–Bhutan via Kathmandu–Paro Druk Air flight (1 hour). Nepal–India via the Sunauli land border (Lumbini side) or Delhi–Kathmandu flight. We sell published 11- to 24-day combinations on each pairing.

Is there an altitude concern in Nepal?

Generally no for the standard valley itinerary — Kathmandu is 1,400 m, Pokhara is 800 m, Chitwan is 100 m, Lumbini is 150 m. Altitude becomes relevant only on Annapurna trekking (Annapurna Base Camp 4,130 m, Poon Hill 3,210 m) or Everest Base Camp (Nepal side) trekking, neither of which is part of our standard Nepal product.

How do I book?

Send dates and indicate Kathmandu-only or Kathmandu + Pokhara + Chitwan + Lumbini scope. Itinerary draft in 24 hours via our Kathmandu partner. Total booking-to-departure window: 4–8 weeks; longer (8–12 weeks) for October peak.
