China Tibet Nepal Tours

Beijing, Shanghai or Chengdu start, then Tibet, then overland to Nepal

A China Tibet Nepal tour combines a mainland China gateway (Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Xian or Guangzhou), a Tibet block (Lhasa + EBC), and a Nepal endpoint (Kathmandu, often with Pokhara). Most run 14 to 22 days. The Tibet–Nepal segment uses the overland Friendship Highway via Gyirong; the China–Tibet segment uses the Qinghai–Tibet Railway from a major China hub or a direct flight to Lhasa.

This is the longest standard product on the site and the strongest single trip for travellers who want to see all three Himalayan-adjacent cultural systems — Han Chinese, Tibetan Buddhist, and Newar/Hindu — without doubling back.

What is a China Tibet Nepal tour?

A China Tibet Nepal tour is a 14–22 day three-country combined itinerary, starting in mainland China, traversing Tibet via Lhasa and EBC, and ending in Nepal via the Gyirong border. The China leg is 3 to 6 days; the Tibet leg is 6 to 9 days; the Nepal leg is 4 to 7 days. The most popular templates are 14-day Beijing–Tibet–Kathmandu (with Great Wall, Lhasa, EBC, Kathmandu Valley), 17-day Beijing–Tibet–Nepal–Bhutan, and 23-day Shanghai–China classics + Tibet + Nepal.

When to go and how long to plan

The Tibet leg’s strongest windows (late April–early June, September–early November) align well with both China and Nepal seasons. October is the single best month. The Tibet Travel Permit takes 15 working days; the China visa is your responsibility (apply 3–4 weeks before the China leg start); the Nepal visa is issued on arrival or pre-issued e-visa. Plan 8–12 weeks total booking-to-departure window.

How we run China Tibet Nepal tours at Tibet Daily

Three teams: a China-side partner agency for the start city (Beijing/Shanghai/Chengdu), our Lhasa-based Tibetan team for the middle, and a Kathmandu partner agency for the end. The handoff at Lhasa airport or train station: your Tibetan guide replaces the China-side guide. The handoff at Rasuwagadhi border: your Nepal driver replaces the Tibetan team. Each handoff is in person with the original Tibet Travel Permit envelope.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a China Tibet Nepal tour cost?

A 14-day Beijing–Tibet–Kathmandu group tour from USD 2,800 per person. A 17-day Beijing–Tibet–Nepal–Bhutan from USD 4,200. A 22-day China + Tibet + Nepal + Bhutan ultimate Asian journey from USD 5,800 per person. Private 2-pax versions add ~25%. Includes Tibet Travel Permit, all intercity transport (train and flight), all hotels, three regional guides, vehicles, breakfast. Excludes Chinese visa, Nepali visa, Bhutan visa-and-tariff (where applicable).

How long is a China Tibet Nepal trip end-to-end?

14 days is the minimum credible length (3 China + 6 Tibet + 5 Nepal); 17–18 days is a comfortable medium; 22 days adds Bhutan as the eastern Himalayan finale. Anything shorter than 14 days compresses one of the three legs to a transit stop and loses the value of the multi-country pairing.

Do I need three separate visas?

Yes. China L tourist visa from your home country (single or double entry depending on transit logic). Nepali visa-on-arrival or pre-issued e-visa. Bhutan visa applied for through the licensed tour operator (Tibet Daily handles this via our partner Bhutan agency). The Tibet Travel Permit is processed on top of the Chinese visa by us.

Can I do this trip without any flights?

Almost. The China–Tibet leg can be all rail (Beijing/Shanghai/Chengdu to Lhasa via Qinghai–Tibet Railway). The Tibet–Nepal leg is all overland via Gyirong. The Nepal–Bhutan leg requires a flight (Druk Air or Bhutan Airlines from Kathmandu to Paro, 1.5 hours; Bhutan has no operational land border for tourists). Total no-flight portion: roughly 60–70% of the trip.

How do I book?

Send dates, start city, three-country balance preference, and any Bhutan add. We send a 14- or 17- or 22-day itinerary draft within 72 hours. Permits begin on deposit; total window 10–14 weeks. Bhutan needs 30 days lead time on top.
